Writing - I Sit Alone
A Shakespearean Sonnet by: Aron Pfingsten
Ulysses, KS
Upon my porch I’m sitting all alone
The party has called all my friends away
The drinking and the drugs I don’t condone
“It’s not that big of deal”, they always say
With all that we’ve been taught and all we’ve seen
Their apathy I just don’t understand
Though loyalty and facts I’m caught between
I know that God, for me, has great things planned
So, sitting here alone is not so bad
I’ll try to find a way to save my friends
Though partying may be the current fad
It’s not worth my friends’ lives, I can’t pretend
I’ll risk the lonesome nights to make them see
And some day soon, I pray, they sit with me.
